Sports events, music festivals, and unexpected surprises. The return of the cold weather also marks the return of great moments to share. Get your calendars out—you have a date in the Southern Alps this winter!

The Resorts Are On Stage

Enjoy good times at the foot of the slopes

On December 14th, the season kicked off reggae style in Vars. Groove in a warm, casual atmosphere with a dance floor at the foot of the slopes to celebrate the resort’s opening. From January 15th – 19th, 2020, Vars hosted the 3rd edition of the Outdoormix Winter Festival. Freeriders, dancers, and snow sports fans are invited to share their love for winter sports in a festive programme. Then on February 26th, Le Sauze transforms its base into an open-air concert stage to welcome the group Superbus. Finally, the 10th anniversary of the Trophée de Serre Chevalier will take place in March 2020. To mark this occasion, they’ll have giant slaloms and a stage that pulsates with music. The biggest names will be there!

The Mountains Burst with Imagination

An ideal playground for extraordinary experiences

In 2020, Auron celebrates gastronomy with the 9th edition of the Chefs au Sommet. From January 18th to 30th, events for budding and more experienced chefs will be served. Plus, guests can dig into gastronomic menus at every restaurant in the resort. From February 18th to 20th, amuse yourselves at the Festival Rirozor, which has lost none of its sense of humour for its 6th edition. In addition to laughs, February also showcases cinema. At La Grave, take a seat at the mountain film festival to discover short films with commentary by famous climbing heroes. Finally, at Super-Dévoluy you can experience a unique event that comes with lots of softness. On March 28th, Speed Shear invites you to test your barber skills while shearing sheep.

Young and Old, all are Welcome!

Anniversaries to celebrate, young ones to spoil

An exceptional weekend in Auron where for the first two opening days: all children under the age of 12 were able to take advantage of ski passes, accommodations, equipment hire, and ESF courses for free! Moreover, on January 11th and 12th, 2020, kids under 12 were also spoiled in Montclar, Chabanon and Le Grand Puy with free ski passes. But as good news never comes alone, the resort is also thinking about the adults! You are invited to come and share good times to ring in the Chabanon resort’s 50 years the 1st and 2nd of February. Full of great memories, Risoul is also celebrating half a century in 2020. The fun kicks off on December 23rd with a sound and light show with fireworks.

Winter Sports Challenge

Get into competition mode

Are you dreaming? Le Sauze has launched the first race where the winner doesn’t come first! On April 4th, your objective will be to finish as colourfully as possible by taking part in Sauze Color. Inspired by India’s Holi festival, the multicolour rain mixing with powder snow is a great way to say goodbye to the winter and greet spring. Meanwhile, in Montgenèvre, the biggest gathering of young skiers in France will take place. On April 4th and 5th, 2020, the Course de la 1000 Pattes welcomes the youngest – between 5 and 10 years – for a weekend loaded with sports events and trials.

Events To Watch All Winter Long

Get an eyeful as a spectator

In early December, the slopes of Isola 2000 hosted the Grand Prix International de Slalom Géant. And on December 21st-22nd freeriders took to the Le Sauze for the… with the local skier Wadeck Gorak – winner of the 2019 Xtreme Verbier – as a special guest! Throughout the weekend, enjoy events and DJ sets for riders and spectators. There’s also fun for car enthusiasts at the Trophée Andros. Follow your favourite drivers from Isola 2000 to Serre-Chevalier on the Circuit des Glaces on January 18th and 19th, 2020. A bit further south, support the Rallye de Monte-Carlo in Gap during its stage in the Southern Alps from January 20th to 26th and especially on the 25th of January in Selonnet – La Bréole. Then, go from horsepower to real horses at the skijoring competition in Ceillac on March 8th. Finally, from April 14th to 19th at Vars les Claux, admire the talents of our adored ESF (French ski) instructors for the 70th edition of the challenge. 7 disciplines and almost 6,000 red sweaters are expected-the competition will be fierce!
