Jardin Du Lautaret Alpes Sajf Jvg Ppeghaire

The most beautiful parks and gardens in the Alps

For a moment of pure beauty and natural serenity at high altitude, escape to the Jardin du Lautaret in the Parc Naturel Régional des Écrins, the Vallon du Brec in the Nice countryside, and the Domaine de Charance in Gap. These verdant places flourish with peaceful and educational virtues.

Climb to the Jardin du Lautaret

Perched at an altitude of 2,100 metres at the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional des Écrins, in the enchanting surroundings of the Meije massif at Vilar d’Arène, the Jardin du Lautaret is a colourful, open-air botanical reserve. And boasts a bounty of information for enthusiasts! Established in 1899, the fruit of the University of Grenoble’s admirable efforts, it has a collection of more than 2,300 species of plants from mountains and cold climates from across the world, a vast collection of seeds, a fully equipped herbarium and a library of Alpine biology. Impressive!

Visit the Vallon du Brec

In Coursegoules, in the Parc Naturel Régional des Préalpes d’Azur and the Niçois countryside, the Vallon du Brec is a haven of tranquillity with the allure of a Japanese garden. An elegant array of plants from Asia and America, of roses, and of painted wooden structures, this colourful poetic garden is also home to an art studio where you can discover works – lamps, tables and other original wooden and clay objects – that are crafted by the co-owner, Mitchell Darland.

Discover the Domaine de Charance

Located at an altitude of 1,000 metres and only 4 km from Gap’s town centre the Domaine de Charance houses a terraced garden. Formerly an orchard and vegetable garden, nowadays wild and cultivated plants thrive, embodying the botanical diversity of the Hautes-Alpes. There you will also discover an arboretum and the perched Rochasson balcony, which affords one of the most beautiful views of Gap. The highlight of this verdant jewel? A collection of 600 old rose bushes that are each beautifully fragrant.
