Scrumptious gourmet tables and restaurants

on the Côte d’Azur

Mediterranean flavours are just as good on the colourful plate of a super gourmet or starred restaurant with a view over the sea as on the sunny table of a typical bistro featuring regional products. And what about you, what’s your thing?

A magical range of starred restaurants

The Côte d’Azur, a proven epicurean and well-known for its good food and wines, promises an exceptional culinary adventure in its gourmet restaurants which have all been awarded stars and surprise the most discerning palates. In the restaurant La Vague d’Or in Saint-Tropez, the chef Arnaud Donckele is one of the youngest starred chefs in the Michelin guide. His cuisine, which is both spectacular and delicate, subtle and refined, is enjoyed in an enchanting setting under the pine trees overlooking the sea. Further to the east along the Mediterranean coast, the famous Croisette is the Palme d’Or’s headquarters with its unadulterated view over the bay of Cannes. The establishment promises creative food and delicious regional dishes created by Christian Sinicropi, a chef born in Cannes. Among the pine and tamarind trees in Saint-Raphaël, La Terrasse of the Hôtel Les Roches Rouges invites you to a round of flavours in inventive and convivial dishes inspired by the writing of the author René Jouveau in La cuisine provençale de tradition populaire. Named “Chef of the year 2019”, Virginie Basselot continues to spoil the real food lovers who feast in the restaurant Le Chantecler in Nice.

A quick bite or a meal on the terrace of a bistro

When they come back from the beach, southerners who know the place go to chez Popeye, in La Croix Valmer, orto La Praia, in Villefranche-sur-Mer, to order their little snack. What about a famous fameux pan bagnat, the most popular street food on the Côte d’Azur? The best of all is still the lobster sandwich from Homer Lobster that the inhabitants of Saint Tropez just love! You prefer regional cooking? The café-restaurants in the villages, with their Bistrot de Pays label, guarantee a really warm welcome! Share a delicious meal of fresh regional products with friends or family in a warm, fun atmosphere. In the middle of the hilltop village of Castillon, behind Menton, the bistro l’Hartmonie serves little dishes which changed every day and follow the seasons. A special mention goes to the seasonal fruit tarts which are as good as the ones your grandmother used to make. In the lush, green valley of Les Paillons, 20km from Nice, the Bistrot des Sources has a generous family cuisine inspired by the rich Mediterranean terroir. In Le Bistrot de Sophie, at the foot of the Montagne du Cheiron 30 km from the coast, the home-made dishes are typically Nicois and focus on fresh, local produce.

TV stars with remakable cuilinary talent

As a top chef, the Italian-Argentine Mauro Colagreco collects stars. His restaurant Mirazur, in Menton, was awarded the title of Best Restaurant in the world in 2019. A lovely place to invite your better half to dinner and discover all the subtle notes of a cuisine which focuses on the contrast between flavours. Those of you who watch cookery shows have almost certainly seen him during the different seasons of Top Chef and Objectif Top Chef, where he appears as a member of the jury. One of the participants in this show (Objectif Top Chef 2021), Pascal Barandoni, was awarded to title of Best Apprentice in France. This young chef from the Var joined the Top chef 2022 adventure. Similarly, Brice Morvent, former “Top Chef” candidate and French burger champion, was once in charge of the kitchens of Fouquet’s in Cannes in the Hôtel Majestic on the Croisette.
