The soils on the Trévarèse hills – the most characteristic soils in the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence wine region – at an altitude of 400 metres, provide ideal conditions for creating a very fresh and mineral wine.
Brillane wines have the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence designation. Whether they are red or rosé, they take on a mineral flavour from the soils with the help of organic methods used in the vineyards for over 15 years. The wines have also had the Ecocert label since 2004.
The Domaine de La Brillane represents a unique way of life and winemaking in Provence. Respect is the estate's watch word and philosophy! Respect for the soil, the vineyards, the grapes... and of course, for the wines.
The grapes are organic. Harvesting is by hand. The wines contain no enzymes or yeasts. The vat room is made from Cévennes chestnut, a wood that doesn't need chemical treatment. The storage room is a natural building without air-conditioning, which can breathe.
It is not some kind of "religious" conviction that made the estate chose this more laborious method. The winemakers are convinced that if they can produce high quality wines without adding chemicals to the soils, then this makes the extra attention needed in the vineyards worthwhile.
Two rosés and three different red wines are produced on the estate.
The wines combine two or more grape varieties out of the 7 grapes grown on the estate: Cabernet-Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise.
Wines prized for their fresh and fruity quality and, for the La Traversée and La Grande Etoile wines, enough body to be laid down for years.
