Hamlet of Libre

Historic site and monument, Historic patrimony, Town / Village, Town of Art & History in Breil-sur-Roya
  • This hamlet of about 80 inhabitants is situated at an altitude of 600 meters and is renowned for the cultivation of its olive groves.
    In 1947, all travel was by foot, on donkeys, mules or men.

  • The main crops were olive, vine, lavender.
    Many Librasques came to work in the building sites of the valley.
    The restoration of buildings damaged by the war was carried out and controlled in «Travaux d'Office» by the State: Reconstruction Service, Technical follow-up of Mr COTTO, architect.
    While waiting for the road, a cable had been installed to mount the materials.
