Historic commemorative plaque

This plaque is made on the order of Charles Emmanuel I of Savoie so that passers-by know that he is the initiator and the director of the construction of the new road linking his capital of Turin to the chief town of the province of Nice: "Uniting the two slopes of the mountains for the public good, the authority, the usefulness of Italy and the whole globe, in spite of the precipices which he reduced by iron and fire, Charles Emmanuel, Xième comte and Iième duc de Savoie, anticipating prince, father of his people, filled in peace and in war, on his own initiative, with his own science, with his own resources, made this royal journey."
