Hôtel de Carcès
Historic site and monument, Historic patrimony, Classical in Aix-en-Provence
Warning: Unsecured hours
Built in 1590 for Jean Guesnay, Treasurer General of France, the mansion was acquired by the Carcès family in 1612.
Fine late 17th-century door topped by a fanlight decorated with leaves and the magnificent bust of a faun.
The majestic, simple elegance of the 16th-century courtyard has remained almost intact: decorative door with broken pediment and trophies, niches, wide gates and mullion windows.
