Musique : Crossborder Blues

Entertainment/recreation, Concert, World music, Jazz and blues in Sainte-Maxime
  • Three of the greatest contemporary blues artists : Harrison Kennedy (vocals and banjo), Jean-Jacques Milteau (harmonica) and Vincent Segal (cello) - unite for a series of original and exhilarating explorations renewing this acoustic universe, born in the 19th century among African-American workers. A vibrant plea for tolerance and freedom.

Respectful of the past without ever sinking into nostalgia, mindful of tradition while addressing current themes, curious of new sound marriages, CrossBorder Blues spans the Atlantic Ocean to combine the voice of Harrison Kennedy with the imaginative harmonicas of Jean-Jacques Milteau and Vincent Segal’s lyric cello. The forefathers of bluesman Harrison Kennedy were slaves in the plantations of the southern United States, where they sang of their aspirations for a better life. An exceptional musician, he has worked with the greatest, including Marvin Gaye in the legendary Motown. To magnify the universality of blues, he rallies to him for the first time two experienced French artists, crowned with multiple awards at the Victoires de la Musique. Like him, they were fond of this cosmopolitan culture, which had its roots in plantation songs, negro spirituals and European folklore. The harmonica, the singer’s preferred «interlocutor» in traditional blues, is brilliantly handled by Jean-Jacques Milteau, while the bass tones of Vincent Segal’s cello highlight the vocal art of Harrison Kennedy, in an acoustic project where the voice is queen.
