Remarkable trees : Brachychiton roseus - Bottle tree
Natural wonder
in Menton
-
From the Sterculiaceae family, Brachychiton roseus is a genus of thirty-one species of trees and large bushes native to Australia and New Guinea.
-
It is distinguished by its highly colored bell-shaped flowers in most species, which bloom before the new summer leaves.
The female flowers consist of five separate carpels (protective sheaths), each of which produces a fruit containing several edible seeds.
Some Brachychitons form massive swollen trunks, containing water which is why it is called a bottle tree.
