Theatre: The journey of Gulliver

L'imagination est au pouvoir avec Valérie Lesort, actress, puppeteer and visual artist, et Christian Hecq, sociétaire de la Comédie-Française, qui font du Voyage de Gulliver une nouvelle performance poétique aussi inventive que virtuose, rhythmic with songs and original musical composition.

Immersed in a singular scenic universe, Valérie Lesort and Christian Hecq seize the novel The Journey of Gulliver by Jonathan Swift to create a hymn to the difference, with an incomparable freedom of tone and virtuosity.

Their free adaptation of La Mouche by George Langelaan had already struck the minds and received a harvest of rewards; today they repeat with this social and political satyr. Since their meeting in 2007, their complicity has never failed and is reactivated once again when it comes to "riding" together the famous fantasy adventure novel.

Extraordinary playground as the story of this peaceful giant, Gulliver, the only survivor of a shipwreck, stranded on the shore, assailed by tiny inhabitants who immediately take him prisoner. From all his height he observes the agitation of men and the versatility of the powerful - the Emperor and his wife Cachaça -, their taste for power and war…

Everything here is conducive to evoke the wonderful and the strange, the disturbing and the magical through the choice of the set and the scenography, the manipulations of objects, the visual finds and the hybrid puppets that make their signature. With the exception of Gulliver, which retains its human size, the Lilliputians are played by half-actor and half-puppet puppets fifty centimetres high!
