In his unceasing questioning of the role of art in our society, Thomas Hirschhorn has created an installation intended as an architecture that the viewer penetrates and experiences.
Designed for display in the first rooms of the building, this corridor, made from metal and scotch tape, is a veritable airlock, a security chamber for contamination to art. A host of elements from daily life have accumulated in it, perhaps the result of an implausible archaeological excavation of the present time.
In much the same way that participants' private objects infiltrate the museum and become works of art, Hirschhorn's installation blurs the boundary between art and reality.
The curatorial team behind the mobilisation of this work, which so strongly reflects the approach taken, will take part in assembling the airlock and will be in conversation with the artist who is coming to Avignon to reactivate his work.
