Welcome to Hameau des Moulins

Get ready to hike!

How about starting your hiking holiday with a full immersion in the local atmopshere at Hameau des Moulins ? Once upon a time, this site was home to three windmills, one of which has been restored in tribute to the area’s ancient agricultural heritage. Make sure you stop off at Ferme de l’Izoard. This typical Queyras farm marks the start of your foray into the mountain pastures of Queyras and it’s here that you’ll pick up all the documents you need for your adventure. Take a moment to revise the names of the upcoming trails and get ready to hike!

Step 2

The pretty chalets of Clapeyto

Sumptuous lakes and divine mountain pastures

On today’s packed programme: an immersion in the heart of the remarkable Clapeyto site. Starting out from Chalp d’Arvieux, cross the little hamlet of Brunissard before roaming a succession of plateaux and valleys dotted with many mountain chalets. The authentic atmosphere and serenity of this site are truly unique. Little lakes and mountains unveil themselves near Col de Néal, opening the door to stunning panoramic views over Durance valley and the summits of the Écrins mountains – simply magical! Come back down via Cirque de Cros to end this incredible hike in style.

Step 3

Furfande, between mountain passes and pastures

Discovering life at the top

The third day leads you to the typical mountain pastures of Furfande. The little village of Arvieux welcomes you at the heart of a gorgeous valley: you’ll find something here for every age and taste whatever the season. One of the trails leads to the Chalets d’Estives, standing witness to mountain life in days gone by. Continue walking to Col de Furfande before enjoying a well-earned rest as you contemplate the breathtaking view. After a day out in the fresh air, nothing beats a welcome dinner courtesy of Laure at the Refuge de Furfande, perched at 2,300 metres. And as night falls, sit back, unwind and gaze in awe at the stars…

Step 4

From the Refuge de Furfande to Villargaudin

Through hilltop hamlets

A stunning overhanging trail sets the pace for this day of magnificent landscapes and historical treasures. Cross the barns and chalets of Furfande nestling in mountain pastures before reaching the hamlet of Escoyères. Famed for its religious heritage, this tiny village springs to life in summer. Head on to the ancient Roman Road, which formerly linked the plain of Pô to Briançon via Queyras. Wind up your day in fine company with a visit to the little hamlet of Villargaudin, where you can enjoy chatting with the handful of inhabitants that continue to live here throughout the year.

Heading to Chalp d’Arvieux

At the heart of the valley's architectural heritage

It’s the last day already! Take the trail back to the departure point at Chalp d’Arvieux. The ancient Sentier du Muletier (mule path) leads you directly to the village of Arvieux through ancient farming terraces and a forest nestling in the valley. This unique site is a hub of Queyras architectural heritage and features a temple, church and beautifully-restored ancient buildings… A genuine voyage back in time. Pause awhile to explore and chat with the local inhabitants – the proud guardians of this unique local legacy.
