Spend a Unique Night in the Alps

Are you looking for originality? Make the most of your visit to the Alps by trying one of the unique places to stay in the heart of exquisite alpine nature. Gaze at the stars from a treehouse, an eco-lodge, a tepee, a bubble, or an observatory. Let yourself be tempted by an adventure!

Study Nature

At the Monts d’Azur Reserve

For an unforgettable night, head to the Réserve Biologique des Monts d’Azur. Whether you’re with family or with friends, you’ll enjoy exploring this natural setting, which abounds with discoveries of alpine flora and fauna. Buffalo, moose, and Przewalski horses make this experience a full-fledged adventure. After a calm night in one of the reserve’s eco-lodges, get up before dawn to make like an explorer and observe the animals. Then, treat yourself to a homemade breakfast. Beautiful memories are guaranteed!

See flowers and wildlife in the Alps

Shut Your Eyes

In a High-Altitude Hut

What if you could sleep in a cocoon overlooking alpine peaks? The Toits Rouges in Saint-Etienne-de-Tinnée offers this unforgettable experience. You’ll spend a one-of-a-kind night here, in one of the old huts that have been restored and stylishly decorated by Véronique and Yves. FYI, to get to this peaceful spot in the mountains, you have to climb 1400 metres above sea level. The trip is well worth it though: between a well-stocked vegetable garden and a sauna for a relaxing break, Les Toits Rouges has something for everyone.

Reach for the Stars

In an Alpine Observatory

The French Southern Alps are renowned for their cloudless sky—one of the clearest in Europe. So, prepare yourself for an unforgettable night with your head in the stars. At the Gîte de l’Observatoire des Baronnies Provençales, you can look at the planets and constellations before falling asleep in a cosy room. Open in July and August, the Observatoire de Saint-Véran, also welcomes you to its unique lodging so you can discover the secrets of the sky. Perched at an altitude of almost 3,000 metres, it is a 2.5‑hour trek to get here – but it’s worth it. You can also try the Pas du Loup experience, which is a lodge and restaurant that invites you to curl up in a cosy bed and watch the stars.

Science and discovery in the Alps

Fly High

In the Cabanes des Pins Sylvestres

Look up. Last night you slept amongst the trees, in one of the Scotch pine cabins at the Cabanes des Pins Sylvestres. Open between May and October, they are ideal for unwinding in the shelter of the Boréon. There is no TV or internet here, so make the most of the present to (re)discover the beauties of alpine nature and reconnect with each other. The Cabanes des Pins Sylvestres welcome couples, groups of friends, and even families: for kids under 12, entrance to the nearby Parc Alpha is free.

Observe the stars in the Alps

Shut Your Eyes

In a Bubble

What if you could sleep in a transparent bubble suspended in the air, in the middle of the Parc National des Écrins? Lulled by the murmuring of the waterfalls and animal sounds, your gaze lost in the stars of the Alps, let yourself drift off gently in one of the Rêvembulle cocoons in La Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar. This unique lodging in the Alps also can be found in Barcelonnette at Crazy Bulle, as well as in Gourdon at Dreams Bubble.

Travel Back in Time

Under a Tepee

What better way to rediscover your childhood than spending the night in a tepee? Judy and Paul Spicer, a British couple who have lived in the Alps since 2004, offer you a unique stay in one of their cosy tepees. Nestled under the tall evergreens on their property, La Source, the tepees are located just a few kilometres from Sisteron. For more rustic experience, you can head to the Parc de la Moulière tepee camp in Caille for a novel night or stay in the heart of the forest in the Parc Naturel Régional des Préalpes d’Azur.
