A passion for jam

Straight from the jar!

“Jam is love in a jar!”. Stéphane Bertrand-Pellisson, Head Chef and manager of the Hôtel les Gardettes in Orcières-Merlette, is passionate about local flavours and especially about jam! Intrigued? His extraordinary Les Délices Orsatus homemade jam range, including the very-original elderberry and sea buckthorn, is an absolute must-taste. And if you fancy trying some homemade jam concocted with tender loving care by 2 twin brothers, head to Les Frères Tron in Méolans-Revel (Ubaye) and fill up your hamper with delicious local goodies – this is also a great address for a range of seasonal local products made with their own harvest. Breakfast happiness in a jar…

A fragile flower and mythical spice

Admire and taste: welcome to saffron

A legendary spice, locally referred to as “red gold”, saffron is renowned for bringing joy and wisdom and is often used to fight fatigue and burnouts. Isabelle Lenogue has patiently restored this beautiful flower with its many properties to its former noble status. Stop off at Rioclar in the town of Méolans-Revel to discover the many benefits of Ubaye saffron and stock up your herb cupboard. “Safran de Sospel” (Sospel Saffron) is also highly-coveted by the gastronomic restaurants of the Côte d’Azur. Further South, in the middle of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, crocus sativus gets some sun on the Karkam Safran farm. Grown in organic farming, the famous purple flowers greet you early in the morning as you experience its harvesting with Guilène Cheron. A passionate producer, she also offers educational workshops on saffron. Labelled “Accueil Paysan”, the saffron farm opens its doors for you to spend a night in a gite and a warm, friendly moment at its resident meals!

Imagined with passion, produced with talent

A day at the farm…

Perched at an altitude of 1,300 metres, Doux Mélèze is an alpaca farm and little corner of paradise you can enjoy visiting in the delightful company of Claire. Younger visitors will love getting up close and personal with these sweet and cuddly animals and taking part in the farm games. You’ll also find out all about fashion accessories made with alpaca wool and set out on the tranquil trails of Vallée de la Blanche for a treasure hunt with the farm’s ponies – a 100% fun and instructive experience for all the family! If you’re a (big) organic craft beer fan, don’t miss a visit to the Brasserie Cordoeil in Thorame-Basse. Run by Pougnet father and son, this family-owned brewery teaches you everything you’ve ever wanted to know about beer making, from malting to bottling. And of course you get to taste too! Ranging from their star “Cordoeil ambrée” amber beer to the “Cordoeil framboise” made with organic raspberries, you’re sure to find something here to quench your thirst!
