"L'Aspre" deserves its name, as nothing stands on this austere peak, battered by the winds…other than the remains of an ancient observatory, evidence of its immaculate skies. This building was the trial for the construction of a larger one, but the site of Saint-Michel de l'Observatoire in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence was eventually chosen; the whole site is now abandoned. Of particular note is the quality workmanship of the houses of Tourres, this hamlet dating back to the middle ages which is now inhabited only in high season: larch shingle roofs and discreetly supported stone walls ensure this site retains its original character and its hardy beauty. Only the admirable Chapelle Saint-Jean, at the entrance to the hamlet, appears to show the inexorable decline of the buildings forgotten by man.
