The Romanche river has its source at the Col du Lautaret. It is discreet when it passes at the foot of the north face of the Meije. Quickly the little river frees itself from this straitjacket and expresses all its vitality and tonicity. Numerous rapids and thresholds formed by the large blocks of schist fallen from the slopes of the Oisan, will lead you to the lake of Chambon. There, the Romanche changes department to continue its life, softened by the dams of the Isère.
