  • Natural wonder
Départementale 907, Près des quatre chemins, 04100 Manosque
The maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) is a member of the Pinaceae family. It can reach 30 meters in height. A row of pines near the "4 roads" is classified.
A site registered under the Environment Code (articles L.341-1 to L.341-22) is located south east of Manosque. It is the "maritime pine plantation located along the RN207" (regional code: 93I04008) registered by prefectural decree on April 7, 1943.
"The RN207 from Avignon to Saint-André-les-Alpes crosses the Durance on a suspension bridge. On both sides of this bridge, the road is bordered to the southwest by a row of maritime pines forming a majestic screen of greenery against the rays of the setting sun. Fifteen to eighteen meters high, these maritime pines are the most beautiful among those, very rare, which remain in the department of Basses-Alpes. (...).The whole of this alley of pines constitutes a curious site in Haute-Provence, where this species of tree is rare.
species of tree is rare." (Extract from the report of the Architect of the M.H. in Manosque - November 30, 1942).
The only real maritime pines are today located on the south-eastern part of the site, towards the crossroads known as Quatre-chemins, and the alignment has been replanted with non-maritime pines.
