French “Towns & Villages in Bloom” Label: the 2018 Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur winners!

It’s official, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region has published the list of 2018 winners of the coveted national label, featuring 245 Towns & Villages in Bloom distinguished for their “Quality of Life”, including 9 with the top “4 Flowers” rating.

The South, the good life

On Friday April 26th, Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and François de Canson, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Tourist Board and Mayor of La Londe-les-Maures, unveiled the 2018 list of “Towns & Villages in Bloom” distinguished for their “Quality of Life”. Speaking to a large audience of regional mayors, they also hailed the remarkable work of local MPs, technicians and gardeners, who have helped make the region a benchmark in terms of quality of life and become evermore welcoming and attractive for local inhabitants and visitors alike.

An organic farm

This year, 9 special regional prizes were awarded to local initiatives, including the creation of a farm supplying organic produce to school canteens in the town of Mouans-Sartoux, in the Alpes-Maritimes and setting up of an “Nature Agenda” in Chateaurenard, in the Bouches-du-Rhône area. Two new towns – La Farlède and Le Val, both in the Var area – plucked their first flower in 2018, while seven were awarded 2 Flowers and four now boast 3 Flowers. Forty-eight towns have maintained their current level of distinction and three received an honourable mention from the Jury.

Cassis in bloom

Last but not least, the “French Town and Villages in Bloom” National Jury awarded a fourth flower to Cassis, earning the town a place in France’s small and very-prestigious circle: just 9 towns in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur boast the highest level of the label. This distinction rewards the efforts of Cassis town council to enhance its environment through numerous town planning initiatives over the last decade. The town has also privileged sustainable development and maintained the quality of life of its inhabitants and visitors, while preserving its authentic character.
