Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur will host 10 of the 48 matches at the Rugby World Cup 2023. For this not-to-be-missed event, the southern region invites you to join the world.

In Marseille and Nice

In September 2023, France will be hosting THE rugby competition acclaimed by all the fans of the rugby ball: the World Cup. This large-scale event will put the limelight on Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, as our region will be the region, with l’Ile-de-France, hosting the most matches: 10 in all – 6 in Marseille and 4 in Nice. Among them, some of the most awaited matches:  England v Argentina and Africa v Scotland which will be played in the Mediterranean city. England v Japan will take place in the capital of the Côte d’Azur. The French team will also play against Namibia on 21st September in Marseille.

At the beginning of March, the draw for the Rugby World Cup France 2023 revealed which teams would be playing in the stadiums of the southern region: France, South Africa, Argentina, Scotland, Wales, Italy and Japan, as well as England, Namibia, Tonga, Portugal and Uruguay. In all, 600,000 foreign visitors from all over the world are expected in France! From an economic point of view, this event is crucial for our region as it should generate 215 million euros of direct economic impact (1.2 billion at the national level).

The ticket resale platform for the Rugby World Cup is now available. Ticket holders can resell their tickets and potential purchasers can see the availability depending on these resales. For Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the Rugby World Cup 2023 is part of a great dynamic of hosting large-scale sports events. This Southern region has already proved its worth by hosting the Formula 1 Grand Prix de France on the Paul Ricard Circuit in Le Castellet, between Marseille and Toulon, in 2018, 2019 and 2022. But that’s not all! Marseille is getting ready to host the 2024 Olympic Games sailing events. The Olympic flame, the symbol of world sports excellence, will arrive on 8th May 2024, adding a modicum of pride to a region which is already passionate about sport.

And it doesn’t stop there for the south of France! Nice will have the honour of hosting the arrival of the legendary Tour de France, bringing a joyful roar to the lips of cycling enthusiasts. And of course, Ironman 2024, an endurance race that will attract athletes and spectators in search of incredible challenges. Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur glows at each event, flying high the colours of sport and the hospitality of the South.
