In 1944, the Second World War was raging across Europe. In southern France, the Resistance was organising and preparing the ground for the arrival of the Allied forces. On 15 August, the big day arrived: the troops landed on the beaches between Toulon and Saint-Raphaël. Operation Dragoon was launched! Objectives: to liberate Provence, capture important ports and link up with Allied forces in Normandy. Two weeks of fierce fighting later, Provence was liberated. Today, many monuments and historical sites serve as reminders of the Resistance and the Liberation.
