Don’t miss the Saint Jacques-le-Majeur altar piece by Louis Bréa (about 1500).4 m. high, with 14 panels 3 superimposed registered and its unusually well preserved back, this altar piece is justly the pride of the church.
The major saints of the universal church, around the Virgin and Saint-Jacques, occupy the whole surface area. Saint Jacques, who here has none of his picturesque attributes, becomes a symbolic figure of pilgrimage from earth to eternity. The Virgin looking downwards, holding the young Infant with a grave expression and offering a blessing, is the culmination of the work’s grandeur.
