See the "Marie-Madeleine" altar piece by François Bréa (middle of the sixteenth century). The altar piece is confusing at first look as, in its central niche, topped by Sainte-Hélène, there is no statue of Marie-Madeleine.
Around the Empress are the placid images of saints and, higher up, an exceptional gallery of feminine figures. Here there is no image of Christ, other than in one of the five stories on the altar step, where the artist details with a bright palette five episodes of the life of "Magdalene".
