From the Tauroentum legend to the Villa Maritima
Legend has it that the Greek city of Tauroentum, which disappeared "beneath the waves" in the 3rd century, was located on the Museum's present-day site. The site also bears witness to a major Roman settlement from the 1st century onwards, with some 2,000 people living in a huge villa maritima. Today, the Museum houses three rooms displaying a large collection of objects found in situ: amphorae, coins, glassware... and a remarkable collection...
