Roughly carved stone probably representing a pre-Roman pagan fertility deity.
The Mourgue is a crudely carved stone probably representing a pre-Roman pagan divinity of fertility.
The term comes from the Roman ‘Morga’, which became ‘Mourgue’ in Provençal and ‘Moniale’ in French. It has inspired many poets (Louis Renard, Frédédic Mistral, etc.) and local historians.
