Malijay in provençal, male jactus in latin : badly situated, certainly because of the Bleone's floods which even blew away the cemetery in 1860.
First, Malijai set up on the left bank of the Bléone river then, in the middle of the 13th century, the village developed along the right bank of the river on the traditional "Digne-Sisteron" road which was used from ancient times. The village counts 1990 inhabitants. The classical elegance of the 18th century castle lead the history of Malijai. Built in 1770, this castle is known because of Napoleon 1st who spent the night of the 4th of March, just back from Elba Island.
