This monument is located in the very town where General de Lattre de Tassigny set up his command post on August 17, 1944.
The monument consists of a horizontal, rectangular stele decorated with several reliefs depicting the illustrious General, a tank, landing barges, ships, aircraft and soldiers. At its feet is a marble plaque (Rhine and Danube insignia).
The inauguration took place on August 31, 1969, in the presence of a number of personalities, including Mme Maréchale de Lattre de Tassigny, M. Jean-Paul Roy (Préfet du Var), Generals Monsabert, Bonjour, Audolento, Perpere, Molle, Guiliano, Bouvet, Frat and Baillif, and M. Caillat (Mayor of Cogolin).
