You may recognise this description of the village of Montjay from The Horseman on the Roof by Jean Giono: "Montjay, built on a rather important network of small country lanes..."

The appeal of this small village at the base of Blaisance Valley is its tranquillity and remoteness. The sundial can be admired on a façade of one of the homes on the main street, dating from 1777.
Ferdinand Marrou, the undisputed master of French wrought ironwork in the late 19th century, is originally from Montjay
