Formerly located in the Blème gorges, the war memorial now stands at the entrance to the village. This stele pays tribute to the members of the Morvan maquis, who died during the fighting to liberate the region in 1944.
The last stonemason in Montclus, Léon Bros, made this monument from a block of limestone quarried in the Montclus Gorge. The remains of the quarry can be seen at the first bridge from Montclus towards Serres. This local artist, who died in 1952, made the most of this massive, resistant rock, etching forever the memory of the soldiers who perished in battle.
