Pierre Bonnard died in Le Cannet on January 23, 1947 and is buried in the Cimetière des Anges (Le Cannet, Alpes-Maritimes), beside Marthe, his model and only companion.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Pierre Bonnard discovered the Midi: "I was struck by the Thousand and One Nights. The sea, the yellow walls, the reflections as colorful as the lights..."
On February 27, 1927, he bought a small house in Le Cannet, which he christened "Le Bosquet".
He painted his last canvas, "L'amandier", before his death.
This tree, bursting with flowers, is a symbol of triumphant life.
