Grillon used to mark the Northern boundary of the Papal States. Its 12th century ramparts are dominated by two towers : the belfry with its wrought iron campanile, and the church bell tower with its octogonal stone spire. At the foot of the walls encircling the old village lies the typically Provençal Place de la Bourgade, with its fountain in the shade of hundred-year-old plane trees. The Templars also left their mark in Grillon through theirs canals and watermills which contributede towards its industrial dynamism in the 19th century. Nowadays, Grillon is a pleasant village to live in.
