Via Ferrata consist of movement across a cliff face equipped with cables, rungs, metal steps and occasionally footbridges... You will be secured by a harness and ropes linked to the cable.
This Via ferrata is at the start of the Ailefroide gorges and has three routes. The routes are varied and progress along the compact, granite rock faces that hang over the Gyr stream.
The first part (easy) is fun and aimed at families and beginners. A climb up then down above the tunnel, and a monkey bridge that crosses a coomb alongside the road. 3 footbridges then cross the stream. Now on the left bank of the river, the route is horizontal and follows the stream. A first way out means you can leave the via ferrata at this point (40 mins - 1 hour)
The second section (quite difficult) is physical and aimed at people who already have experience of Via Ferrata. It takes another hour (350 m in length) to complete the second part which can also be reached from the return trail. The walk back to the car park takes 15 minutes.
The third part (difficult) on the left back is reached by another footpath along the stream but is higher and after an aerial crossing, there are two overhangs to negotiate. It is difficult because both overhangs are sloped. The end of the route is at the top of the gorges (45 mins)
20-minutes walk back down to the car park.
Follow the D994. AT the end of Pelvoux and Les Claux. Park in the car park to the left before the tunnel. The Via Ferrata starts on the left at the entrance to the tunnel.
