Concors – Vauvenargues, Taulisson round trip

This 4-hour sporty foray into the heart of the wooded hills and valleys adjacent to Sainte-Victoire mountain takes adventurers into virtually uncharted, isolated landscapes. Here, just behind the towns and villages of Provence, lies a land of fields and forests otherwise known as the Massif du Concors. Set to the north of Sainte-Victoire mountain, this hill chain is now almost void of human presence, and kermes oaks, pines, rose bushes, cistus and euphorbias are your only companions – or nearly! Man has nevertheless left his mark here, as witnessed by the superb Château du Grand Sambuc, rising up from the forest. Or better still, the quaint Sainte-Consorce chapel, isolated in the hillsides and the last stop-off before the ascension to the summit of the Massif du Concors, offering breathtaking views over the plain of Venelles, the Trévaresse mountain chain and, in fine weather, the Alpilles mountain chain and Etang de Berre lake.
