The climb towards Molines, along the left bank of the Aigue Blanche, is shaded by larch trees, and the most striking feature is the ‘Demoiselle coiffée’, shaped by erosion. Until the 1950s, the ""coiffed maiden"" had a similar ‘sister’ who died because she lost her hat!

A fairy chimney or ‘demoiselle coiffée’ is a sort of large natural column made of fairly friable rock, generally sedimentary or derived from volcanic deposits, the top of which is protected and capped by a rock of a different nature, much more resistant to erosion.

    # Molines-en-Queyras
Passing through the village of La Rua, the Serre de Molines and arriving at Saint-Véran, you can appreciate the traditional architecture of the houses, with a lower stone section housing the family and livestock, and the huge barns: ‘la fuste’ built from larch trunks, with roofs made of lauzes or larch shingles.

    # Saint-Véran
Saint-Véran is best explored along its main street.
‘The village where the roosters peck at the stars (2,040m).
The highest village in Europe (2,040m), Saint-Véran has a lot to offer:
its 17th-century Baroque church, its traditional Protestant temple, its museum of the habitat of yesteryear, the ‘Soum’, its mission crosses, its sundials...

    # Mission crosses
A cross was erected each time a missionary came to bring the good news to the parishioners. Each cross, also known as the Passion Cross, bore the symbols of the Passion of Christ.
