Hameau de Raton, 05150 Rosans
This amazing itinerary offer a panoramic viewpoint of the Oule and Rosanais valleys, and is a perfect place to see chamois. A sports trail, but one that is definitely worth the effort !
The Hamlet of Raton is located in the southern valley which collects water from the torrents. The river Baudon, which is a tributary of the Eygues river, starts flowing from there. From the hamlet, take the path on the left, and walk a long slope up. This road used to go toward houses that are now in ruins.
At the end of the road, a very enjoyable trail goes up the terrain until reaching a small ridge, and leads to the pastures of Staton.
You can see the sheepfold of Staton (pronounced Taton locally) on the left.
Proceed straight forward, you will reach a source to refresh yourself on the path, and to go up to the ruins and the mountain pass.
At the pass, take the rocky trail that goes up on the side of the Gravières mountain. You will reach the Pas de Pousterle ("little door" in Occitan language).
At the ridge, take the right road to reach "La Passière de Sapie".
The view from there is breathtaking, particularly in the north with the Saint-Romans mountain, as well as the village and gorges of Pommerol.
The path on the left is hard to see (a sign will be added). Go down a few steps, the slope is a bit steep, then follow a more comfortable path to the mountain pass of Fromagère, take the trail on the right (post 172) to then follow the left path toward "Le Grand Béal". At the post 199, you can get back on road, take the left path toward Raton to get back to the start.
