The trail to the Gauron barns is easy, perfect for children and occasional hikers. The Gauron belvedere is ideal for a picnic in the sun.

Take the path 400m downstream of the Mesches dam (b. 235). Cross horizontally to marker 236. The trail descends to a large, chaotic scree slope.
Climb slightly to marker 237; continue up to the hamlet of Cioto. Cross the valley and climb to marker 238.
A short, steep climb takes you to marker 222, then on the left you'll discover the Gauron barns.
A horizontal traverse through undergrowth takes you to Mont Bonsapée (1343m, b. 221).
Cross over to the south-facing slope and begin the...Take the path 400m downstream of the Mesches dam (b. 235). Cross horizontally to marker 236. The trail descends to a large, chaotic scree slope.
Climb slightly to marker 237; continue up to the hamlet of Cioto. Cross the valley and climb to marker 238.

Cross over to the south-facing slope and begin the descent to Granile. Soon you come across the penstock that plunges down to St-Dalmas-de-Tende, and through the terraces you can easily reach Granile (b. 220).
Alternative route: At marker 238, turn left in the direction of St Dalmas de Tende and descend to the RD 91 used to reach Lac des Mesches. Once there, you can descend to St-Dalmas de Tende or climb back up to Lac des Mesches in 40 minutes.
Tourism info: The Gauron barns were the summer dwellings of the Granilais, when their livelihood depended on sheep and goat breeding.
