Things to do in Vars if the weather is bad

Ideas of activities for when it rains or snows, or if it’s very cold

Vars, the flagship resort of the French southern Alps, attracts winter sports enthusiasts and those who love exceptional views. But what is there to do when the clouds hide the peaks or rain joins the party? No sweat! With relaxation breaks, gourmet discoveries and cultural breaks, Vars has no end of advantages to make a nice time out of a grey day.

Recharge body and soul at the Bains de Vars

When the cold is too bitter or the snowflakes too heavy, head for les Bains de Vars. This centre dedicated to wellbeing, nestled in the heart of the mountains at the foot of the L’Eyssina ridges, is an invitation to relaxation in a warm, soothing atmosphere. Heated pool, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, sensory showers and made-to-measure treatments… everything you need to let go. By yourself, as a couple or with friends, you’ll quickly forget the weather outside and deeply relax, rocked by the gentle, warm atmosphere and the scent of essential oils. And to make your pleasure last longer, why not treat yourself to a massage or a wellbeing ritual inspired by various techniques from all over the world? The ideal cocooning break before putting your best foot forward.

Make the most of a moment of quiet in the municipal library

Feel like a calm, quiet moment while it rains outside? The municipal library and multimedia area in Vars is the ideal cultural refuge when the weather is uncertain and the best place to shelter and escape differently. In Sainte-Marie, it welcomes all ages in a warm, friendly atmosphere. You can browse through a novel, read the press, borrow comics or watch a film on the computers available. There’s also an area dedicated to children where they can discover the albums in the youth selection. It’s a friendly place where holidaymakers meet the inhabitants, in a warm, peaceful setting. Between two snowfalls, the library is great for a cultural break before heading once more for the runs!

Discover the local products of the Chèvrerie de la Font Sancte

There’s nothing better to ward off a grey day than an authentic food experience at the Chèvrerie de la Font Sancte goat farm, which is a mere stone’s throw from the middle of Vars. This family farm invites visitors to meet passionate breeders and discover the day-to-day life of Alpine goats. Even when it’s raining, it’s still pleasant to visit the facilities: you’ll learn how artisanal cheeses are made, watch the goats being milked and get a tasting of farm products. Tommes, tomettes, raclettes, fresh cheeses, yoghurts, brousses and feta… everything is made and matured on the spot following a savoir-faire which respects nature and animals. The visit, which is both educational and tasty, will delight children and the curious, who can taste local food. And, before you leave, you can fill your bag with mountain delicacies in their shop!
