The village of Ailefroide is a preserved, magical place. This wonderful little village with its old stone houses is set in a natural environment. A sense of serenity abounds in this hamlet on the edge of the Écrins National Park.
It takes a good 1½ hours to get to Ailefroide in the winter. You may be lucky enough to find Mr and Mrs Buisson's small refreshment bar, these adorable people live in Ailefroide all year round...
In the winter, head to Les Claux tunnel (at the end of the road through Pelvoux).
With snow shoes, you will be able to follow the path up the left bank of the stream (start point on the right of the penstock) or by the road after the tunnel.
Be cautious of avalanche risks: be sure to check on the risks before you leave.
