Between Cassis and La Ciotat, the route des Crêtes approaches the sky and winds its way to the top of the Soubeyran cliffs. The Cap Canaille, with an altitude of 399 meters, is the highest point of the massif and the highest sea cliff in Europe.

The route des Crêtes winds its way between the limestone poudingues, to join Cassis, a Roman fishing port that has become a renowned seaside and climatic resort, to La Ciotat, an old industrial city that is now a popular tourist destination.
