The beautiful Fontcouverte waterfall is located 6 km upstream from Névache. It is a site classified by ministerial decree.
It takes its name from a miraculous spring that was partly hidden and covered by a bush: the covered fountain.
It takes its name from a miraculous spring that was partly hidden and covered by a bush: the covered fountain.
There are several hiking trails that lead to the Fontcouverte waterfall.
During spring, summer, and early fall, you can drive along the Haute Vallée de la Clarée road and park at Fontcouverte. From there, the waterfall is just a few minutes' walk away. This is a very accessible and easy walk.
When the Haute Clarée road is closed during winter, you can reach the waterfall either on foot via the groomed trail (summer road) or by following the marked snowshoe trail, which starts a few minutes' walk upstream from Névache.
