Discover Lac de Peïroou in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and its dam.
Lac de Peïroou is an artificial lake located in the Alpilles at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, in the direction of Les Baux-de-Provence. The name ‘Peïroou’ comes from the Provençal language, referring to the natural cavities in the rock caused by erosion. Its original purpose was to supply water to the town of Glanum.

There are 2 ways to get to the lake: from Avenue Van Gogh, head towards Avenue Antoine de la Salle and keep going. Another way to get to the lake is from the Route des Baux, as you leave the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. There are some steps on your right, and you'll come across a lovely, physical walk where the GR6 passes by.

Please note: access to the lake is closed to traffic every year around April by order of the prefect. Please always check whether access is permitted or not. Please note: access to the lake is closed to traffic in summer. When possible, you can walk to the lake and start a hike on the GR6.
It is also possible to go fishing. To do so, you need to obtain a special fishing card for Lac de Peïroou, as the national fishing card does not work here. You can buy it at the Tourist Office in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Daily, weekly or monthly tickets are available. Please note: the lake is no longer accessible by vehicle.

In anticipation of the very high level of use during the summer of Lake Peiroou, a highly sensitive site in the heart of a protected forest, the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence has decided to renew the ban on motor vehicle traffic on the Chemin des Espagnols from April.

The area around Lac de Peiroou and the road leading to it (Chemin des Espagnols) are part of a classified wooded area that is particularly susceptible to fire. Overcrowding endangers the site and its visitors, and in an emergency is likely to slow down the arrival of emergency services.

By municipal decree, motor vehicle traffic (including electric scooters), which is usually banned during the summer months, has therefore been banned once again for an extended period, from April to September inclusive. Offenders are liable to fines starting at €135.
