Bonson takes its name from bonso in Provençal, meaning "lock", "bar", "flat". Bausse, in Niçois, is a steep rock.
Built on a rocky ridge, the village overlooks a vast panorama where the Var river unravels its braids in a bed bounded by dikes on both banks.
Landscape interpretation :
On either side, the plain is brief and the landscape climbs rapidly up the slopes. The view is framed by limestone massifs, wooded on the left bank and cultivated in restanques on the right.
On the right bank, the slope is gentle and the olive trees are planted on terraces in sunny positions. The olive tree, sometimes 8 to 10 meters tall, is an essential element of the landscape. Its grayish-green foliage and weeping willow-like appearance, with its sparse but long, drooping branches, reveal a serene, unchanging landscape. The color and texture of the olive groves contrast with the soft green of the deciduous trees growing in the valleys, and with the dark green of the cypresses and their slender, vertical form. Often planted close to homes, cypresses are a welcome sight.
This magnificent landscape of olive groves seduces the eye with a multitude of contrasts that harmonize: horizontal lines of low walls and vertical plantings, the presence of plant and mineral, contrasts between slopes and terraced slopes, harmony of natural colors and habitats...
