The Roussillon Ochre Trail is located in former quarries and offers remarkable landscapes, shaped for two centuries by the ochre industry and by nature.
Two itineraries have been set up to discover the old ochre mines, and can be covered in 30 minutes and 50 minutes. You will be able to admire spectacular landscapes, which seem to escape from the wild immensities of the American West. The ochre, present everywhere, offers numerous nuances of colors which evolve each minute under the play of the sun. Men, water and wind have created here dreamlike and magical worlds, unique in the world.
The trail begins with a 50-meter-long area that gives access to a breathtaking panoramic view. The path then leads between the cliffs and pine forests. Numerous explanatory panels provide information on the geology, flora and history of the area, transforming a sensory experience into a fun and educational discovery.
With 350 steps, the Roussillon Ochre Trail is not recommended for people with reduced mobility, or for families with strollers.
