The osage orange tree

Also called bois d'arc, it is a deciduous tree of the Moraceae family, like the mulberry tree. It gave its name to the housing estate classified as a "20th century heritage" and to the street. The thorny branches have simple and pointed leaves of a nice shiny green color. This tree is about 70 years old and owes its name to the North American Indians of the Osage tribe. Its wood was used to make bows and from its fruit (inedible) was extracted the latex used to dye the tribe's face. It was planted in the United States in the Great Plains to form windbreaks, and thus became emblematic.
