The osage orange tree is rare in Manosque and uncommon in France. From the Latin name "Maclura pomifera", it can be recognized by its green fruits which look like oranges but are not edible.
Also called bois d'arc, it is a deciduous tree of the Moraceae family, like the mulberry tree. It gave its name to the housing estate classified as a "20th century heritage" and to the street. The thorny branches have simple and pointed leaves of a nice shiny green color. This tree is about 70 years old and owes its name to the North American Indians of the Osage tribe.
