The Luberon Regional Nature Park owes its popularity to its remarkable natural areas. Between fields, vineyards and wooded areas, valleys, hills and mountains, the Park offers visitors a mosaic of landscapes. Walking through the Park, you can observe more than 270 different species of vertebrates. Ornithology enthusiasts can spot the Jean-le-Blanc circaet, Bonelli’s eagle and the Egyptian vulture, for example. Cycling enthusiasts can explore the Luberon on the natural side of things by taking the Voie Verte du Calavon. Among the destinations that cannot be missed are the villages of Ansouis, Gordes, Lourmarin, Ménerbes and Roussillon, considered to be the most beautiful villages in France.
The Provence of Giono
Jean Giono is, along with Marcel Pagnol, the author who has contributed the most to the influence of Provence. Known for his book Le Hussard sur le toit (The Hussar on the Roof), the story of which is nestled in a Provence affected by a cholera epidemic. Regain, a work that illustrates the author’s à la Provence, tells the story of the revival of a village victim of the rural exodus. A movie directed by another Provençal writer, Marcel Pagnol, adapts this book. Discover the Provence of Giono, its landscapes both luminous and austere, its authentic villages.
