As a border region, the Ubaye Valley was heavily fortified in the 19th century. You can, for instance, visit the Tournoux Fort, a massive citadel built to ward off Italian incursions.

Further downstream in the Ubaye Valley, Barcelonnette is renowned for its Mexican-style villas. These beautiful homes were constructed by residents who had ventured to America, only to return once they had made their fortune.

You can also find several museums near Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, including the Valley Museum – La Sapinière, the House of Wood, and the Lauzet-Ubaye Museum: Mountains and Men.

Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye in Winter

The Ubaye Valley is home to three ski resorts that bring joy to winter sports enthusiasts.

Pra Loup boasts one of the largest ski areas in the Southern Alps, with nearly 180 km of slopes. The Espace Lumière combines the ski areas of Pra Loup and Val d’Allos for double the pleasure!

Le Sauze offers 65 kilometers of slopes. This charming village resort appeals to families seeking quality facilities and an exceptional setting. Many fun activities are available for children.

Sainte-Anne has a more intimate ski area, providing an immersive experience deep in the Ubaye Valley.

You can also enjoy cross-country skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, and dog sledding, making for a wide range of winter activities!
