The Natural Park of the Préalpes d’Azur
Located northwest of the city of Nice, the Préalpes d’Azur show the successful marriage between the Alps and the French Riviera. The landscapes are both wild and unspoiled: vertiginous gorges or wide agricultural valleys, forests… With more than 2000 plant species, the Park is home to a third of the French flora, including 40 endemic species. You can also observe many species of birds: Jean-le-Blanc circaète, European owl, griffon vulture, crossbill, wild bunting, European nightjar, ortolan bunting, red-billed crab, rock swallow, white-fronted redstart, red-backed shrike, melodious linnet, blue grouse, black grouse, boreal chickadee, ladder tichodrome… Nature also offers many activities : walking, horse riding or cycling, canyoning, paragliding, climbing, via ferrata, tree climbing… Men have been present on these lands for thousands of years and have left us an incredibly rich historical heritage: historic landmarks, medieval castles, wash houses, fountains, wells, chapels, churches, oratories… Agropastoralism is very active thanks to the actions of passionate producers. Markets and grocery stores will introduce you to local flavors: gingerbread, honey, goat’s cheese, lamb meat, market garden and farm produce, olive products (oil and pasta)…
