The Natural Park of the Préalpes d’Azur
Between sun and mountains, the French Riviera and the Mercantour massif, the Parc des Préalpes d’Azur has a great variety of territories with mountains, hills, deep gorges, forests and agricultural valleys. With more than 2000 plant species, the Park is home to a third of France’s flowers and plants, including 65 protected species and 40 species found nowhere else. You can also observe many species of birds: the ladder tichodrome, the European owl, the Jean-le-Blanc circaète, the white-fronted red-striped shrike, the red-backed shrike, the melodious linnet… The Park has been laid out to allow the practice of outdoor activities, while respecting natural areas… Hiking is a popular nature activity in the Park… You can also take to the roads of the Park by bike, go rock climbing or canyoning, or even go horse riding in the enchanting setting of the Préalpes… Men have occupied these lands for thousands of years and have handed down to us an incredibly rich architectural heritage: historic milestones, bread ovens, wells, wash houses, fountains, medieval castles, oppidums… Markets and grocery stores will introduce you to local flavors: honey, gingerbread, mountain cheese, lamb meat, vegetables, fruit, olive products (oil and pasta)…
