Préalpes of the French Riviera: the Alps with sea view
Located northwest of Nice, the Préalpes d’Azur show a happy marriage between the Alps and the French Riviera. The landscapes are at the same time wild and bucolic: cultivated valleys, clearings, forests, steep-sided valleys? With more than 2000 plant species, the Park is home to a third of French flowers and plants, including 40 species found only in the region. You can also observe many birds: red-billed crab, ortolan bunting, European nightjar, rock swallow, rock swallow, rock ptarmigan, pipit rousseline, golden eagle, Jean-le-Blanc circaète… The Park appeals to lovers of outdoor leisure activities: walking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, canyoning, paragliding, climbing, tree climbing, via ferrata… From one valley to another, discover a built heritage whose discretion adds to its charm: windmills, castles, oratories, chapels… Agropastoralism is practiced in the Préalpes. Local markets and village grocery stores will introduce you to local flavors: honey, mountain cheese, lamb meat, fruit and vegetables, olive products (oil and pasta), liqueurs, crystallized flowers…
