Préalpes of the French Riviera: the Alps with their feet in the water
From the marriage between the mountains of the Alps and the French Riviera were born the Préalpes d’Azur. The landscapes here are wild and grandiose: valleys with cultivated fields, woods and forests, meadows, vertiginous valleys… With more than 2000 plant species, the Park is home to a third of the French flora, including 65 protected species and 40 species found nowhere else. The fauna is also very rich on the territory of the French Riviera Préalpes: rock ptarmigan, rock swallow, blue grouse, boreal chickadee, white footed crayfish, Strinatii’s hydromant, a wide variety of bat species… Outdoor activities are numerous. Hiking is a popular nature activity in the Azure Préalpes. You can also discover the routes of the Park by bike, defy the void by learning to climb, ride a horse in the enchanting scenery of the Préalpes… From one valley to another, discover a historical heritage of sober beauty: bread ovens, historical milestones, castles, oppidums, wash houses, fountains, wells, churches, chapels… Markets and grocery stores will invite you to discover local products: honey, gingerbread, goat’s cheese, lamb, fruit and vegetables, olive products (oil and pasta), citrus fruit liqueurs, crystallized flowers…
