Préalpes of the French Riviera: the Alps with their feet in the water
From the union between the French Riviera and the mountains of the Alps were born the Préalpes d’Azur. The landscapes here are bucolic and wild: agricultural valleys, forests and clearings, vertiginous valleys… With more than 2000 plant species, the Park is home to a third of France’s flowers and plants, including 40 species found nowhere else. Many animals also live in the heart of the Préalpes of Azur: birds, reptiles and amphibians (Orsini’s viper, Strinatii’s hydromant…) The Park has been designed to welcome lovers of outdoor activities, while respecting the ecosystems… Numerous marked paths await the amateurs of walking. You will also be able to take off on the roads of the Préalpes by bike, take a climbing lesson or test canyoning, take off on a via ferrata, or even contemplate the Park from the sky by paragliding… Men have occupied these lands for thousands of years and have left us an incredibly rich cultural heritage: wash houses, fountains, churches, oratories, chapels, bread ovens, windmills, dovecotes, bridges, irrigation canals, oppidums… Producers in love with their land bring to life a thousand-year-old know-how. Markets and grocery stores will introduce you to local flavors: gingerbread, honey, goat’s cheese, lamb, farm and market garden products, olive products (oil and pasta), liqueurs, crystallized flowers…
